Barolo Wine Dinner

featuring Ettore Germano Winery

We are honored to host Elia Germano of the Ettore Germano winery in Serralunga d’Alba for an evening devoted to Barolo.

Barolo is one of the great wines of the world, and it shows best at the table, over a long dinner with good company. And for one night, we bring the family behind these wines to Denver, with Elia seated at the table alongside you.

The Germanos have farmed in Serralunga for over a century, and Elia and his sister are the fifth generation. Their father, Sergio, is the winemaker today. He trained at the enology school in Alba and took over the family estate in 1993, where he still does much of the vineyard work himself. He also leads the Consorzio Barolo Barbaresco, the body that governs and protects the region. Few families shape Barolo the way this one does, and it is rare to have one of them pouring for you in person.

At the center of the evening are four Barolo wines, all from Serralunga, the village known for the most powerful and structured Barolo in the appellation. Among them are the single vineyards Prapò, where the oldest vines were planted by Elia’s grandfather Ettore in 1967, and Cerretta, right next door and even firmer in style. We are also opening an older vintage we have been saving in our cellar for exactly this night. Tasting a current release next to a Barolo with real age on it, from the same family and the same hillside, is an experience most people never get, even in Piedmont. The Germano Nebbiolo traditional method sparkling, Langhe Nebbiolo, and their Chardonnay, round out the lineup. Seven wines in total.

Chef Ty and the culinary team are preparing a five-course, Piedmont-inspired menu built around these wines, while Elia shares his family’s history and their wines from the first pour to the last. This promises to be an evening to remember.
